Sustainability in Metal Stamping
A large effort towards company improvement is sustainability. Wiegel has a certified environmental management system in place and advocates a sustainable and environmentally friendly position in the marketplace. It is our goal to keep the synergy between company departments and key vendors aligned with operational goals of efficiency and waste reduction.
resource efficiency
EFFICIENT RECYCLING SYSTEM
Wiegel carries out numerous procedures and operational control efforts to efficiently use the company’s energy and natural resources and work to mitigate our impact on the environment. We follow a strict recycling system throughout our organization and keep all recyclable materialssuch as paper, plastic bottles, plastic straps, aluminum cans, cardboard, toner cartridges, electronics, light bulbs and batteries stored in separate individual waste containers. We also place used wood pallets in designated areas and contain metal scrap in designated waste bins throughout our plant.
ENERGY CONSERVATION
To conserve electricity and prevent unnecessary waste of energy, we shut off production equipment during breaks, we’ve installed efficient LED lighting, incorporate motion sensor lights and track the entire facility’s overall electricity usage. We also use water efficient appliances and track our water usage to eliminate over usage and prevent excessive waste. Outside our facility, we’ve invested in permeable pavement to drain storm water and surface runoff so we can continue to preserve the quantity and quality of our earth’s water cycle with a significant reduction of water pollutants.
RESOURCE ORGANIZATION AND ACCIDENT PREVENTION
Operational maintenance processes and emergency procedures are set in place at Wiegel to prevent substance contamination, spills or fires. In case of substance spills, we have documented handling instructions and spill kits readily available for safe and efficient clean-up. We also perform inspections of fire extinguishers and conduct organized fire, tornado and substance spill drills. Our dedicated oil storage room is strategically designed with systematic color- and shape-coded, sealable and reusable oil storage containers for better identification of oils and to prevent oil contamination and over usage. We also have guidelines in place for proper disposal of oils, grease, cleaning chemicals, solvents and other liquid wastes.
SAFETY AND 5S SYSTEM PRACTICES
To prevent noise pollution and vibration impacts, we require all employees to wear earplugs for hearing protection and we have sound proof doors, bricks and other building and structural materials built into the construction of our facility.
Additionally, we implement critical safety protocols, 5S system processes and have created a working environment that is clean, well air-conditioned and non-hazardous for the safety and well-being of our employees. All work stations are well-organized, clean and include the appropriate work tools and equipment. Employees are also required to follow safety-wear policies and practice safety measures while operating tools, machinery and equipment.
It is one of our corporate missions to help create a more sustainable planet, society and economy for a cleaner, safer and healthier world to live.
We Prioritize customer satisfaction
At Wiegel, our utmost priority is customer satisfaction with the quality and integrity of our parts. In-die sensors, press monitoring systems, camera vision systems and a dedicated inspection team ensure parts leaving the production line exceed customer expectations.
ECO-FRIENDLY SUPPLY CHAIN
Our internal environmental and sustainability efforts contribute to a strong eco-friendly supply chain, and so does our selection of green suppliers and sub-contractors. We’ve pledged to work with providers who follow social and environmental standards and use supplier score cards to help distinguish sustainable supply partners. We communicate our environmental policies and procedures to our suppliers, subcontractors and visitors to create and encourage sustainable practices throughout the flow of the supply chain.
We are continuously developing our technological systems and enabling all transactions and supplier forms to be completed electronically to promote paperless operations and business functions.
To help meet efficient shipping and logistics goals, we try to package product more efficiently by maximizing packaging space and reducing packing material waste. We also give our customers the option of using recyclable and re-usable packaging that can be reused in between shipments.
STAYING COMPLIANT WITH INDUSTRY STANDARDS
We set high value on being compliant with industry quality and environmental management standards. We are certified to IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 14001:2015 standards and we continuously audit our quality and environmental systems to ensure we are meeting the latest requirements and achieving operational improvement.
Our team closely monitors our processes and conducts customer surveys so we can identify areas for improvement and apply corrective actions where needed to reach customer scores and targets. Overall equipment efficiency (OEE) is also measured and tracked using our production tracking software and this data is shared with customers in association with their production programs.
