Waterjet Cutting Services for Stamped Parts

Wiegel has invested in waterjet cutting technology as an alternative manufacturing method that produces quick and cost-effective parts for many applications without the need for tooling design and production. Waterjet cutting is a cold process that uses 60,000 psi abrasive water pressure to cut through nearly any material at a rapid rate. For prototyping and short-run quantities that don’t require extremely tight tolerances, we can waterjet parts for OEM and tier manufacturers in the aerospace, appliance, automotive, electric vehicle, electrical equipment, electronics, lighting, military and defense, solar, structural building components, and telecommunications industries, among others.

We’ve added speed and versatility to our manufacturing capabilities by utilizing the latest waterjet technology from Flow International Corporation, a world leader in innovative waterjet machinery. Our waterjet machine is 6.5 x 46 ft with a cutting bed size of 6.5 x 13 ft, allowing us to cut parts at short-run volumes. Our waterjet’s design and cutting software enable us to manipulate designs on screen and nest parts closely together to provide better usage of material, limiting material waste, and reducing the cost of manufacturing your parts. With waterjet, we are capable of cutting the most intricate and complex shapes for 2D part designs. If 3D parts are designed with required bends, we can place parts in secondary processes for forming applications. Our waterjet also features dynamic taper compensation, which controls and confines the water and keeps the jet stream thin and straight, preventing water taper and creating more accuracy and precision in cutting.

Unlike traditional progressive metal stamping processes, waterjet requires no need for tooling or complex fixturing, further reducing manufacturing costs. Depending on material thickness and part requirements, our operators can also cut stacked material to cut more parts in one operation and decrease manufacturing time. Secondary operations for waterjet cut parts are assembly, counterboring, countersinking, deburring, forming, heat treating, milling, plating, powder coating, riveting, tapping, and welding. For assembly needs, we can place waterjet cut parts in a secondary semi-automated assembly process to combine multiple stamped parts and join plastic, metal inserts, or hardware components such as fasteners, screw machine parts, bushings, nuts, and studs to waterjet cut parts.
