Wiegel's in-house prototype department is the perfect choice for manufacturing low volume stamping components with tight tolerances. With over 80 years of experience, Wiegel prototypes parts for leading OEM and Tier manufacturers in the aerospace, appliance, automotive, electric vehicle, electrical equipment, electronics, lighting, military and defense, solar, structural building components and telecommunications industries, among others. Before investing in full production, we test design concepts at early phases of part development to perfect part designs and prevent mass production issues. Our team of highly-skilled, knowledgeable engineers determine feasibility of manufacturing part designs and offer complete recommendations on the best suited materials, modifications and cost savings ideas for part and tool designs, and recommendations for the manufacturing technology that is most appropriate for each unique project. Prototyping saves time and money providing an opportunity to make quality parts with short lead times and ensures the best practices are in place for future production.
Our rapid prototyping department utilizes exclusive and custom developed prototype technology designed by Wiegel experts themselves, wire EDM, waterjet, 3D-printing, chemical etching, and the latest progressive die stamping equipment recognized in industry. Stamping production methods include progressive die high speed stamping with Bruderer machinery and progressive die heavy stamping with Minster machinery. Our stamping facility also features an in-house tool room for building complex progressive tooling to produce stamped parts, eliminating the need for an outside tool and die house. Our engineers work with Siemens NX, the latest 3D modeling software known to the industry, to simulate how parts and tools will function together in production on screen. This helps our engineers identify if weak spots are present in parts and tools and determine if design modifications are necessary to improve manufacturability. The close alignment between our engineering and tooling department allows potential issues and changes to be addressed and implemented immediately. For prototype assembly needs, we use in-die assembly and secondary semi-automated assembly methods to combine multiple stamped parts and join plastic, metal inserts, or hardware components such as fasteners, screw machine parts, bushings, nuts, and studs to metal stampings.
Prove out part designs and manufacturability at a fraction of the production cost and convert concepts into perfect parts with robust prototyping from Wiegel.
